Hummingbird Splendor 01
I recently observed the delightful return of hummingbirds to my yard, where they eagerly indulged in the nectar of the fresh blooming flowers. And then I stumbled upon a charming set of hummingbird art that I simply had to incorporate into my growing collection of cross stitch designs.
DID YOU KNOW THAT HUMMINGBIRDS HAVE BEEN NICKNAMED “HUMMERS”?
A hummer isn’t just a ridiculously large personal vehicle cruising down the road, it’s also the quirky term bird enthusiasts use to describe their posse of hummingbirds. Saying “I saw my hummers today” is the perfect way to chat about your regular little visitors.
The Pattern
Every spring and summer, my mother used to hang a fuchsia basket on our front porch, bringing vibrant colors and life to our front door. It was always delightful to watch it gradually fill up with blooms as the weeks went by. The more blooms it had, the more hummingbirds would grace us with their presence.
As a child, and even as an adult, I have always been captivated by the mesmerizing sight of the hummingbirds, their wings fluttering so rapidly that they seemed to effortlessly hover in the air.
When I stumbled upon this splendor-filled set of hummingbirds, I couldn’t resist snatching them up to ignite my creative inspiration. Naturally, I went all in and secured the commercial rights, knowing that these designs are the perfect fusion of hummingbird colors and fuchsias that transport me back to my joyful childhood memories. Whether you envision transforming them into a whimsical throw pillow, integrating them into a quilt top, or embellishing a room with these charming creatures, the possibilities are truly endless!

When converting watercolor artwork into cross stitch patterns, I knew it was important to consider the level of detail and intricacy to ensure that the essence of the original artwork was preserved. Additionally, the choice of color palette and the number of thread shades can greatly impact the final results, so I created the designs each using two sizes of stitch counts, as well as different number of colors of DMC threads used.
It’s fascinating to witness the transformation of a two-dimensional artwork into a three-dimensional textured piece through the art of cross stitching.
