It’s been another month that just crept by where I ask myself: Where did it go? I know where it went. I was blessed enough to have unexpected visitors every…single…weekend. The thing is, in our last house visitors were quite rare, so I had donated a bunch of our serving platters and dishes before our last move. But things change. Everyone enjoys the view off our back deck at the new townhouse and love to come hang out and relax. It’s one of the reasons we bought the house. But now I realize that this is our new normal. So I’ve quit putting off getting new serving dishes, and put some I love on my Christmas wish list.
Despite all the unexpected company, I did manage to get a few new free cross stitch patterns up on the site…find the links to them below.
Why We Avoid What We Need Most: Life Lessons from Cross Stitching
Even though I’ve been very busy, I’ve also come to recognize that I’ve been…well…delaying more than a few things. Things that I know I should embrace! Do you ever put things off? Or am I the only one? I understand that better days are ahead. I’ve discovered that cross stitching offers wonderful life lessons, shedding light on why we sometimes shy away from the things we truly need.

Life often presents us with a paradox: the things we need the most can sometimes be the hardest to confront. This tendency can be illustrated beautifully through the lens of cross stitching. For many stitchers, the very act of creating something intricate and beautiful can become daunting, leading to procrastination or avoidance. Whether it’s the fear of making mistakes, the pressure of perfection, or the overwhelming nature of a complex pattern, these obstacles can hinder the joy of crafting and personal growth.
Just as a cross stitcher might hesitate to start a new project, we often find ourselves shying away from situations that require emotional investment or personal reflection. This avoidance can stem from a desire to protect ourselves from potential failure or disappointment. However, much like a well-executed cross stitch design emerges from countless tiny, deliberate movements, personal growth and fulfillment come from facing our fears and embracing challenges. By acknowledging our hesitation, we can begin to unravel the threads of our lives and stitch together a more authentic version of ourselves.
Ultimately, the process of cross stitching teaches us about patience and resilience. Each stitch represents a small step toward a larger goal, reminding us that progress is often gradual and requires perseverance. By confronting the things we need most—be it emotional healing, personal connections, new experiences, or new serving dishes—we can weave a tapestry of resilience and fulfillment in our lives. Embracing this journey, much like completing a cross stitch pattern, can lead to a richer, more vibrant existence.
