July Stitches (Plus a Confession About Toy Story 5)

Hi Stitchy Friend,

My mother-in-law came to stay with us for a long weekend in June, and one afternoon we decided to catch Toy Story 5 during opening weekend. I was not prepared for how many kids in the theater were dressed head-to-toe as their favorite characters — tiny Buzz Lightyears, a few Jessies, and even one very committed Mr. Potato Head.

What really stuck with me, though, was the movie’s whole message about balancing old-fashioned, hands-on imaginative play with all the modern tech pulling our attention elsewhere. I couldn’t help but think about how that’s basically the whole reason I stitch. In a world of endless scrolling, there is something so grounding about picking up a needle and thread and just…watching a picture come to life with each stitch. That’s the energy I’m bringing into everything I’m sharing this month!
