Emerald Hibiscus: a Free Beginner Cross Stitch with Tropical Flair

Emerald green hibiscus cross stitch pattern, beginner friendly design

Aloha, stitchy friends! 🌺

Lately, I’ve been dreaming of warm sand between my toes and a plumeria-scented breeze. Since an actual Hawaiian vacation isn’t in the cards for me this month (send help, or at least a virgin pina colada), I decided to bring a little slice of islands to my stitching nook instead. And now I get to share it with you!

Say hello to Emerald Hibiscus — my newest free pattern, and one I think is going to become a fast favorite for anyone who loves flowers with a tropical twist.

Why I Designed This One

Hibiscus flower just scream Hawaii, don’t they? Their bold, open-faced bloom feels like the unofficial ambassador to island life. I wanted to stitch one, but I wanted to do it in a way that felt a little unexpected — so instead of the classic red or pink, I went with a rich emerald green. It still gives me all those tropical vibes without looking like every other hibiscus pattern out there.

Perfect for Beginners

This pattern was designed with newer stitchers in mind, so if you’ve got a few small pieces under your belt and have been wanting to dip your toes into a less block-styled cross stitch, this is a great place to start:

  • 77 x 79 stitches — small enough to finish in a week (or a couple of weekends with some Hawaiian-themed TV on…you know, Moana or that Brady Bunch episode where they go to Hawaii)
  • Only 3 colors — no juggling a dozen thread bundles or losing track of your floss
  • Simple, repetitive stitching — all full cross stitches so you can get into a rhythm quickly

If you’re beginner-level and looking for a confidence-building project that still turns out looking impressive, this hibiscus is calling your name.
